Winter Wonderland!

The last 10 days I swear we have been living in Alaska not Portland! It has been a lot of fun but at the same time crazy and weird! The first video is from the beginning of the storm. It had snowed a few inches and then we got "frozen rain" Which is a sheet of ice that covers the snow.


There was a warmer day and things started to thaw-including the ice plugging the broken irrigation pipe in my back yard. Once that thawed, we ended up with almost 2 feet of water in our crawl space before I even knew what happened. That was a blast to fix:)


A few days ago we woke up to these pictures taken below. I measured in the center of our yard and we had 19 inches of snow! With all the new snow we found ourselves stranded in our house. In the pictures you can see how we were literally stranded because you couldn't even see our cars! and then the fun started! Our electricity went out and within 10 hours our house was below 50 degrees. Luckily our friends the Corrys came and rescued us and we spent the night over at their house until our electricity came back on.


Now things are starting to really thaw out again and we are looking forward to having a very very white Christmas! MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!

Christmas time is here!

Christmas season has officially started in the Adamson home. We went out and cut down a Christmas tree today. I love Christmas!

Halloween

This year Halloween was a blast. Tavis was a little alligator but he thought he was a dragon. Jade was a little pooh bear. Tavis was confused and thought we were calling her a stinky pooh. He wasn't happy with us saying those kinds of things about his little sister. Kids are great!

After seeing Jeannie play the accordion, Shannon (Danielle's sister in green) really wanted to get in on the fun so she talked her sisters and mom into preforming her favorite Burley Idaho High School cheer for us on camera. Thanks Shannon!

Travis and Kara Tegan

Last week Danielle's brother, Travis married Kara. It was a beautiful wedding for a beautiful couple! It was nice to be able to get back to Utah to see all Danielle's family and to meet Kara's family.

Last July my Mother-in-law, Jeannie and I had a bet that gas prices would fall back below $3 a gallon by December. She lost and this was my reward!

Gardening

I guess I am weird or something but I love to garden. When I was a kid I used to hate pulling weeds but now I think it is so relaxing and fulfilling. I honestly would love to live on a farm!

A few days ago we went to the Portland Zoo. Tavis loves watching the polar bears. They have it set up so you can see them swimming under water and some of the bears really are active right in front of the glass. The zoo is Tavis's favorite place to go.

Both Jade and Tavis just had their birthdays. Jade turned the ripe age of 1 and Tavis turned 3.

A few weeks ago we went to the coast and had a great time. As you can see in this picture Jade is done walking on the beach but aren't they beautiful?

Rock Climbing

We had a great time in Utah. One of the fun things we did was hang out in at the bountiful Rec center with danielle's sister Camie and her family. There was a rock climbing wall so Tavis jumped right on. It was fun to see the little guy learn to love something I love!

Jade has found a new toy. She is such a girl! She loves getting into shoes and other "girly" things.

Can Hotels be haunted?

Can hotels be haunted? I say, "Heck Yeah!" Last week I was in New Orleans and we stayed at the Hotel Monteleone (check out the video at this link). It is a beautiful hotel. Little did we know that it has a history of being haunted. From the very first day everyone noticed the elevator had a mind of it's own and would let you off on random floors. I didn't think anything of it except that it was annoying. Then we found out that the 14th floor was supposedly haunted so a few of us went up there to check it out. These 2 pictures were taken right in front of the room where a 10 year old kid died years ago. They were taken one right after another. Pretty weird if you ask me.

New Orleans was a lot of fun especially the food. I had Alligator cheesecake and Alligator sausage, turtle, Buckets of Craw fish, and now one of my favorites raw oysters.

This weekend there was a stream train in our city and Tavis had a blast. As you can see he was literally jumping for joy!

Father ane Sons

Tavis and I had a blast this weekend. It was our first father and sons camping trip together. He will be three in a few weeks so I figured this was the year. All growing up I remember every May going with my Dad camping. It always was a great time. In Wyoming I remember my Dad teaching me how to skip rocks and going fishing in one of those big yellow inflatable rafts. I loved going fishing because my dad had a switch blade knife that I loved to play with! One year instead of sleeping in a tent my dad was really excited about being able to sleep in our new Colt Vista because you could turn it into a bed (that was cutting edge back then). In California we always went over to the coast and camped right next to a golf course. I am so glad for all those memories I have going camping with my Dad all growing up. I want to make sure Tavis has a great time too.

Tavis met a new buddy named Koye. In this video they are walking from the camp over to the Fort area where all the kids were playing. As you can see Koye had a dinosaur that Tavis is infatuated with.

Before going to bed we went on a hike to the falls where We say some deer. tavis and Koye are checking out the deer.

The next day Tavis and I went on a 10 mile bike ride. He loved going down the hills and going off roading but was not happy when I had to stand up to peddle on the uphill parts.

Danielle the tough Mama

I thought that the most fitting way to give a tribute to Danielle on Mother's Day was by letting you experience the sprint triathlon she participated in last weekend. For the last few months she has been running, swimming and biking, usually going to the gym at 5:30 in the morning before the kids wake up. She would kill herself doing weekly mile swims, long hilly bike rides and grueling sprint work not to mention weight training, and of course cleaning up after me and raising two beautiful kids.

The Sprint triathlon consisted of a 500 yard swim (20 lengths) in a lap pool, a 13.2 mile bike ride through rolling hills and a 5k run. It was a lot of hard work, like everything Danielle does, but she really did great! She wanted to describe the event so from here on out Danielle is writing.

Okay, you guys can't see the sign by the pool that says, "Objects in pool and coming out of the pool may appear larger than actual size", never mind the optical illusion. Jared always seems to capture me in my finest moments! That swim was hard because I felt so much pressure to swim faster than practiced because of all these people standing around staring down at the swimmers. AAHHH! The good thing is, is that I swam faster than I have ever swam 10 laps, 11:03 minutes.

When I ran out to my bike in my swimming suit I didn't feel anything, I was numb. It was a little chilly that morning, and I didn't care. My friends asked me if I wore a jacket or if I put warmers on my feet, and the thought never occurred to me. My secret weapon was the extra padding that covers my muscles (some people call if fat) helped insulate and keep me warm. It's all about strategy people.

The bike ride was awesome! I had so much fun at that part of the race. I have grown to really love bike riding. I feel so free when I'm going down hills. Learning how to ride the bike with clips and the shoes that clip in the pedals was a struggle. I remember when I first started training I couldn't make it up a hill that was a mile and half past our house. I had to turn around and go home. I felt like such a failure. I also remember falling off my bike with my feet attached to the pedals and I almost got hit by a car. For the first little while I would get anxiety to ride in with the traffic. But training sure paid off. I finished the biking part of the race, 13.2 miles, in 50:09 minutes. That was my fastest time ever riding that distance. I couldn't have been happier. Janessa and her kids recorded me. The race was right by her house. Her kids were throwing up the night before and that morning, but they still came and watched me. They even made a sign. I was so touched by their support.

And then there's the running. Oh the running. I don't know if any of you have ran after riding a bike, but it is the most unnatural feeling EVER. Never mind the fact that I hate to run. It was by far the hardest part of the race. It was all that I could do not to walk. I hit my back on the ladder in the swimming pool (shocking, I know. Usually I'm so graceful) but my lower back ached with every step I took. I was a little disappointed with my 5K (3.1 or 3.2 miles?) time 32:10 minutes. But that's okay. It could have been worse.

I'm done! I'm done! I was so happy to be done! My total time was 1 hour, 40 minutes and 46 seconds. That includes the transition time as well. I did a triathlon 2 years ago and I beat my old time by 20 minutes. I was very happy.

I entered this race to lose my baby weight. For those who know me, know that I never lost any weight after I had Jade, not even minus what she weighed. Don't ask me how that happens, all I know is that the scale and I weren't friends. I went on vacation to visit my sister in CA to get away from the scale and the rain and just everything. I ate like a pig and didn't really train that much when I was there, and I lost 5 pounds. Go figure. But I have lost 10 pounds since the vacation. Jared asked me if I want to do an Olympic triathlon next which is double the distance of what I did. Since I have about 25 to 30 pounds to go I probably will, but from this experience, I just need to go on more vacations!!!! I'm so grateful for this race. It wasn't easy to train and to actually go through with it, trust me I cried a lot going through this, but I got so much more out of it than weight loss. I have more of a appreciation for my health. I understand more fully the fulfilling feeling of setting goals and achieving them. I also believe in myself more. I have adopted the motto "YES I CAN, YES I CAN" that is what I think of when I want to rest in the middle of a workout. I don't know why this was so emotional for me. I get teary eyed just typing this. This has done wonders for my self-esteem. I'm so thankful for Jared. He would get up with the kids every morning and has been so supportive through this whole thing. It's funny. He has been whispering "yes you can" to me the whole time I was going through this, but now I finally believe it. I love you Jared!!!

Valentine's Day

Tavis absolutely loves being in the kitchen when anything is getting done. When Danielle is baking she perches him right next to the bowl and he adds in all the ingredients. When the dishwasher is getting loaded the dishes have to be given to him so he can put them in the dishwasher. In this picture I am dehydrating some apples and he insisted on putting each of the pieces into the dehydrator. It is so fun having a mini-me!

BROTHERLY LOVE

You know that eerie feeling when it suddenly get quiet in your house? Well there's a reason why and this picture explains why.

FRIENDS FOREVER

Janessa's family came over this last weekend. Tavis had so much fun with Hailey. Those too have always loved each other and they always will. It's really cute to see them giggle and play together.

Danielle took up indoor soccer this year. A friend talked her into joining her team and after three games now she loves it. Last week she came home super excited because she scored the first goal of her life. I don't know if it has taken the place of volleyball in her heart but it is pretty close. Tonight was the first game I could go to because typically she plays late at night. She was awesome. As you can see she was battling over the ball with this gal and if I took a shot a second later you would see Danielle driving toward the goal. I am proud to have a feisty lady in our home.

FREEDOM

Jade has finally grown enough to have here little toes hit the ground in her walker. She gets those toes going and she has discovered the freedom that only a walker gives. She loves being in control and exploring the kitchen and entryway- she can't quite get the walker to move on the carpet so for now her domain is the kitchen and the entryway!

Potty Training

21 days into the New Year and Tavis is not liking potty training so far. He sits on the toilet and repeats "diaper...diaper...diaper" Hopefully in another 3 weeks he will be jumping on the toilet excited to do his thing!

We have made it a tradition to stop here on the way home from Utah. As you can kind of see from the video Tavis is starting to say more and more words. It is fun to see him learning so much!
